Most average sized stumps should be ground out in an hour or so. Small to medium Yuccas or plants usually take about twenty minutes to pull or grind.
So the normal cost at $90 an hour would be:
- $120-$180 to grind a normal stump up to 300mm or so, or three or four smaller stumps.
- $180 - $300 or more, to grind bigger stumps.
- $120 for three medium to large Yuccas. Around $40 for each additional Yucca.
- Minimum $120

STUMP GRINDING or YUCCA REMOVAL - $90 per hour
- 33hp Rayco grinder
- 80 cm wide to fit through most gateways.
- Normal grind is about 10 cm (100mm) below surface grade, but can go deeper if needed, and at least 10cm around the stump periphery.
- All that's left is wood chips off the stump and wood chips/dirt mulch from below ground level. Normally we shovel this mulch back into the stump hole and level it out but can remove and tip it at request. Hourly rates and tip fees apply.
- Deeper roots are left in the ground to decay over time. This poses less risk to underground utilities and pipes that can have roots wrapped around or into them. Yucca main root systems are totally removed.
- Some trees throw extensive root sytems at ground level. Grinding these out is called root chasing and it's up to you to decide how far and for how long you want to go.

YUCCA PLUCKER
- Specialist eight tonne plant extractor lifts Yuccas and bushes of small to medium size. Also good for posts, star pickets and poles.
- Triffids removed for free.
- Free travel within 15km radius Bendigo area. Travel in North Central Victoria area outside of this is $1/km out and back from Bendigo.
- Fully insured. Operator has a White Card and a Police Check.
Yucca removal specialist
The more of these horrible invaders that you have removed the better it is for everyone.
They really have no place in Australian gardens and are downright dangerous to children and pets.
Some Yuccas have soft leaf ends but the more common ones have stout, needle sharp leaf ends that can penetrate eyes and ear drums if you're not careful, and woe betide the dog that cocks a leg on a small yucca. It makes me wince to think about it! (see this article)
They are especially dangerous when placed near or hanging over a footpath where the needle leaves are often at eye height.
If you think that they're just harmless beautiful plants then check out these horror stories. It's like having half a dozen Freddy Kruegers in your front yard!
Factors that might effect the time taken, or even our ability to do the job.
If any of this relates to your job then it's best if you could text or email us pics from all sides, or a video, including a soft drink can or milk bottle placed on the stump for scale.
- Rocks, concrete or weed matting in the soil surrounding the stump, or river stones used as a garden bed cover. This will involve extra digging and clearing time when grinding.
- Any stump that has steel embedded in it, such as spikes, star pickets or grown in fencing. This isn't a major problem but we need to know.
- Position on very sloping ground. If the slope is more than about 10 degrees we may not be able to get the machinery to the stump or conditions may be too dangerous to operate.
- Stump is in a raised flower bed or otherwise incapable of getting to without extra work and time; ramps may have to be laid down.
- The ground is too unstable or boggy to get in and out off; we may have to run the machine in on off-road track. This only applies to stump grinding.
- The access, gates etc to the stump are less than 80 cm wide.
- The stump is hard up against a fence or the house. Not impossible it just requires extra precautions. Yuccas often grow right up to, and sometimes over, concrete paths and fences. This involves extra time to remove that part of the stump by hand.
